Music

Music is the largest section of the festival programme and the most varied. It runs from jazz quintets in seated halls to the world music tent, from the independent scene of the city to club nights that start when everything else has finished.

The section is built on a deliberate mixture of scale. Headline concerts at the main venues sit alongside evenings of short sets by local groups, and the two are not kept apart in the schedule — an audience that came for one often stays for the other.

Part of the music programme is ticketed, part is free. The open-air stages and the tent are generally open to everyone; the concerts at the main indoor venues are ticketed, and those tickets sell in advance.
