Midsummer Night Pilczyce 2006
Midsummer Night Pilczyce 2006
Midsummer Night is celebrated in Pilczyce, a district in the western part of Wroclaw, and falls at the very start of the festival — the solstice is what the ten days open on.
The celebration follows an old form: an evening by the water, wreaths set on the current, fire, music that goes on into the night. It is one of the few festivities in the Polish calendar that is genuinely outdoor and genuinely collective, and it needs neither a stage nor a ticket.
Holding it in Pilczyce rather than in the centre is deliberate. The festival makes a point of putting events in districts away from the Market Square, where the audience is the people who live there.
The evening is free and open to everyone. The hour and the exact place by the water are given in the programme section.
